Biography
Afua Atingo Asare-Nyako is a documentary filmmaker and an anthropologist, who treats important issues regarding migration and cultural identity.
Afua and her younger sister were born to a Danish mother and a Ghanaian father. When Afua was four years old the small family moved to Ghana. After nearly two years in Ghana, they moved back to Denmark, where Afua was to begin school. A close relationship with her paternal home Ghana was maintained as she has travelled to Ghana many times to work and for vacation.
Coming from a strong mixed background joining two beautiful countries, Afua developed a cultural awareness at an early stage in life which let her into the field of Anthropology. Further more in her childhood and early school years she engaged in art, music and photography. Her multicultural upbringing and identity has become a great motivation and force in her creative work.
Afua Atingo Asare-Nyako holds a BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a MA in Visual Anthropology with ethnographic documentary film. During her studies Afua made a documentary film 'Happiness' about development work in Ghana, and worked as a volunteer program developer and cinematographer at a TV station.
She graduated from The University of Manchester in 2010.

Afua Atingo Asare Nyako en dokumentarist og antropolog, der behandler vigtige emner med relation til migration og kulturel identitet.
Afua og hendes yngre søster har en mor fra Danmark og en far fra Ghana. Da Afua var fire år, flyttede den lille familie til Ghana, hvor de boede i knap to år, indtil Afua skulle starte i skole i Danmark. En tæt kontakt med med sit paterliniere hjem, Ghana, blev opretholdt, da Afua i flere omgange har rejst dertil, i forbindelse med arbejde og ferie.
At komme fra en stærk multikulturel baggrund, der forenede to smukke lande, har betydet at Afua i en tidlig alder udviklede en kulturel bevidsthed, hvilket førte hende til faget antropologi. Endvidere begyndte hun at engagere sig i kunst, foto og musik i hendes barndom og tidlige skoleår. Hendes multikulturelle opvækst og identitet er blevet til en stærk motivation og force i hendes kreative arbejde.
Afua Atingo Asare-Nyako har en BA i antropologi og en MA i Visuel Antropologi med Etnografisk film. Ved siden af studiet har Afua produceret filmen ´Lykke´ om udviklingsarbejde i Ghana og arbejdet frivillig som program udvikler og kameramand på en TV station.
I 2010 blev hun uddannet fra The University of Manchester.
