CHANGES is an excellent example of multi-layered observational style.The observational style Afua has employed providing the audience gradual access to Kwabena's quest works well. In an intimate way the film covers a great number of different situations but manages to weld them all into a coherent narrative, mixing emotional pathos with quiet humour in an assured way (Filmmaker/Author/Professor - Paul Henley).

A collaborative film-project
CHANGES is to a great extend a collaborative film-project. Where the protagonist, Kwabena, gave his inputs during filming and editing.The making of the film turned out to be an interesting journey for both Kwabena and Afua as a director and daughter.
THE RELATIONSHIP:
In the beginning, Kwabena had to get used to Afua's new role as a filmmaker and anthropologist. And she had to redefine her role; reinforcing the notion that her role as anthropologist/filmmaker could be run simultaneously with her role as a daughter.
I had to adapt to my role as a daughter and a person who was there to make a film... I had to give myself a chance to rediscover my dad (Quote: Afua Atingo).
Afua's double role as filmmaker and daughter has been beneficiary to the intimacy in the film. She is able to give the audience an unique access to different situations.
